In today's message Rabbi Levine spoke on the different faces of God. I was struck when reading in the Gospel of Luke how Zachariah the father of Yochanon the Immerser speaking at the naming of his son, filled with the Ruach HaKodesh said, thou child shall be called the prophet of the Highest; for thou shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways.(ch2:76)
Here we see a temple priest very familiar the concept of God having a face quite literally. Though quite literally it was several months away til the birth of Yeshua. Zachariah himself had only just been able to speak after doubting the possibility of God doing something that he thought was impossible. Our human perspective limits our view of God's capabilities based on our own limited capabilities. Having had his own perspective broaden greatly, Zachariah was now open to the concept of God taking human flesh something he may have been less open to prior to his own son's semi miraculous birth.
